Cost of Living
A great city is also affordable.
All issues
Key drivers of cost are housing, groceries, utilities, insurance, roads, and government regulations. Everyone is hurt by cost of living increases but working families are hit the hardest. We will hold the line on city costs, push back on unfunded state mandates, and make sure every dollar spent at City Hall produces real value.
What we will do
- Oppose new taxes and fees unless voters clearly approve them.
- Fight unfunded mandates from the state that pass costs down to residents.
- Review utility rate structures to ensure ratepayers get a fair deal.
- Make every city service demonstrably worth what residents pay for it.
- Work with the insurance industry to get better rates for cars and homes.
- Accelerate road improvements to reduce wear and tear (see infrastructure plan).
- Increase a variety of housing stock in a variety of ways to include new developments and infil of large and small single family homes, apartments, and condominiums downtown and across the city.
- Grow job opportunities with higher salaries so people can afford more.
